Ashbourne War Memorial Hall & Oval

The Ashbourne War Memorial Hall is a community-owned facility in the heart of Ashbourne on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. Established in 1960 by the local farming community, it is still proudly run by a committee of local volunteers.

The hall and adjacent cricket oval are available for community use and private hire. We have welcomed all sorts of events including weddings, dances, concerts, sporting events, car boot sales and community meetings. The hall seats 100 people, has a commercial kitchen, supper room, toilets, full-size cricket oval and ample off-street parking.

Being a community space, we welcome all community input and ideas for events. If you have any ideas or enquiries please contact us .

History of the hall

The hall was built as a public memorial to locals who served in World Wars I and II'. The first committee meeting was held at Nowillilla on 28 January 1947 under the chairmanship of Mr Harry Pitt.

Post office

Until the 1990s, the postal service was run from the home of the Post Mistress. Increasing demand resulted in a post office being added to the rear of the hall, with the installation of nearly 80 post boxes.

Today the Ashbourne Post Office is a Community Post Office owned by the War Memorial Hall and run by Australia Post. Opening hours are 8.30-9.30am on Mondays and 8.00-9.00am Tuesdays to Fridays Post boxes can be leased by contacting Bess on 0493 799 727.
